"What could be more exciting than traveling to new and exciting places? How about if each trip cost less than $5.00? Sound impossible? Not if you're a Flat Traveler! Based on the book "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown, the Flat Travelers Project brings together families from around the world. Each member of the Flat Travelers Project designs and creates their own "flat traveler" and mails it on trips. After spending a week with their hosts, the travelers return home with a travel journal of their adventures, souvenirs, and photos or digital pictures of their trip. It's almost as fun as making the trip yourself! Besides being a lot of fun, the Flat Travelers Project is also educational. Families can make geography fun by using a map to mark all the places their traveler has visited; practice writing skills while filling in the travel journals; and improve reading comprehension while reading about all the adventures their traveler had while away." That's from their website, linked above. Go sign up! This is a wonderful way for children to learn about different places in the world. You get to CHOOSE where your traveler goes, and each family puts a little about themselves into the searchable database. If we want somebody who will take our flat traveler to Scotland, we can simply enter "Scotland" in the search function. Likewise, if a family wants to see their FT on a Navy base, they can find us by entering "Navy." Chewy has been all over the world with Paul. He's even seen in a Navy briefing, though you'd have to be looking for him *s*. Mostly he rides on Paul's shoulder when Paul's in port. FT gives us the opportunity to send a 2D version of Chewy to those places he missed. It's fun, and it's easy. You can close your status at any time, and reopen it with the click of a button. Much better than a postcard exchange, FT lets your children get to know people and landmarks in specific areas. Click the appropriate words to go back
