Out And About:
Nimbus Fish Hatchery

Wow! This is a great place!! The salmon are spawning on the American
River (October and November), and we had the opportunity to observe
them both in the hatchery and in the river. Free, but the fish
food costs a nickel - bring lots of nickels! Once a year, the
Fish Hatchery sponsors a Salmon Festival. It's free except for
a $5 parking fee (well worth it!). Without a doubt, this is a
"don't miss!" event. From stationary rock wall climbing
to kayaking to art & crafts, it's wonderfully done -- and
FREE. It's held in October; check back closer to then and we
will post the information. 2110 Nimbus Rd, Rancho Cordova, (916)
358-2820. [American River 358-2865] (If you are a schoolteacher
[home, private or government] contact 979-2710 Marie Sullivan
if you'd like to be put on the list for notification of "school
days" for the Fish & Wildlife Department, including
the Salmon Festival's Poster Art contest [information packets
distributed in January.])
