Community Service Opportunities

We're so blessed! What a joy for each of us to be able to have our children with us every day. If you want to be blessed by giving, whether of time, money, services or materials, here are some local organizations that serve others. Please remember when giving to donate items that are of a quality you would be happy to receive if you were in need.

Homeschoolers are often accused of segregating themselves at the expense of their communities. One way to positively expose people who are ignorant of homeschooling's benefits is through community service.

4H Teens or adults can volunteer throughout the state.

Friend to Friend Make a commitment to visit a senior twice a month for a year. Visitors and seniors are match for compatibility. Great opportunity for those with smaller children.

Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group Volunteers needed August 15th - October 15th at the Union River in Belfair. An adult must accompany children volunteering.

Kingston Citizen Advisory Committee Open to High School Juniors.

Kitsap Peninsula Visitor & Convention Bureau Teens and adults can volunteer for one four hour shift per week at the Visitor Center.

Naval Undersea Museum Summer Guide Program Students ages 13-16 can work as volunteer docents, educational assistants, curatorial assistants, or volunteer receptionists.

Prison Pet Partnership Program Purdy Women's Prison has an inmate program where they train dogs for the disabled. Volunteers are needed to walk dogs or to socialize them in a family setting.

Retsil Veteran's Home Port Orchard. They've served their county; now many of them need served. Contact the volunteer coordinator, Catherine Shaw, at
catherines@dva.wa.gov to see where you're most needed. It can be as simple as a one-time visit. Families with children especially encouraged.
