Belfair STate Park
This is a relatively
small State Park, but one of our
favorites. At first
glance, you might simply see the
campsites and playground.
You need to go off the
beaten path to discover its beauty.
Bring your wood
(or buy from the mini-mart), marshmallows
and sticks
to roast in the waterfront firepit. Or take a
walk down
the south side and enjoy the peace and
tranquility.
Let the kids discover the giant felled tree
trunk that
doubles as a slide. Skip rocks. Sit on the logs
and
soak in the silence. Or walk northward to what our son
has dubbed "Bird Island." It's actually a sandbar of
sorts,
but a big adventure for a 9 year old.
We skip the
waterhole
out of bacterial concern, but love to wade up the
salmon stream, hidden underneath a canopy of trees. The water
is COLD, and very refreshing on a hot summer day. Keep your
eye out for the rope swing and the log "bridge." Dogs are
supposed to be kept on a leash, and unfortunately it appears that they're now enforcing this (due to a very grouchy old man with a pitbull who visits regularly and WILL complain if yours is not on one).
